When it Comes to Your Roof Leaking

The best prevention for possible roof damage is inspecting your roof regularly. Somehow, even that is not always enough. Whether it is about whether the damage is hidden or people aren’t looking carefully. However, people face many problems when something is wrong with their roof.

Today we will talk about the most common one: roof leaking. Please read the post below for more information on finding a leak in your shingle and what to do about it.

How to find a leak in your roof?

The first signs of roof leaking are almost always water stains extending through the ceiling. Maybe it seems easy, but finding the source of the leak can be an absolute nightmare. Remember that it doesn’t mean a slight problem regarding a small leak. A small leak can cause a big problem if you don’t fix it immediately.

Waiting costs a lot, whether it is about mold, destroying insulation, or rotten framing and sheathing. So, the first advice is to act fast when you notice the damage. Sometimes, the leak is (or will be) well hidden, so going up on your roof and looking around will not show you a prominent spot. In this case, the best thing you can do to identify the leak is to call someone in the house to watch the walls while you spread water with the garden hose all over the roof. Please remember you don’t go too fast because one problem is passing the spot.

Either way, if the person inside the house is looking well, they can spot the leak eventually and direct you back to that area. Not a bad thing to mention. While you are soaking the roof, it starts from the bottom and then goes slowly upward. On the other side, water doesn’t always come through the roof.

There is also a problem when wind-driven rain enters the house through the dormer walls. Those are like magnets for water, the same as old caulk around the windows. It’s essential to inspect the roof and the other outside parts of the house; if you notice the suspect caulk, dig it out and replace it with silicone caulk.

Required equipment for repairing leaking roofs

If you’re considering repairing it yourself, knowing which equipment you’ll need is good. For caulks mentioned above, you’ll use a putty knife. Besides that, some tools will save you time, money, and frustration: a caulk gun, pry bar, flashlight, and tin snips.

However, if you are afraid of heights or for some other reason and aren’t sure about repairing your leaking roof by yourself, hire a reliable roofer to do this job for you.
